FACTS
- Argentina is the fifth larger wine producer in the world. It has a total cultivated area of 496,576.19 acres.
- The diversity on terroir let winemakers produce wines in different regions from north to south. The altitude of the vineyard ranges from 4 fasl by the Atlantic sea to the extreme altitude of 10.922 fasl near the Andes mountain range.
- The U.S is the main destination for all the Malbec marketed outside Argentina, that means we have a lot of good Malbec wines to choose from!
- Argentina also produces vegan friendly, organic and biodynamic wines.
- Over the last years, its goal has been to understand the influence of terroir on wines. This has encouraged winemakers to grow vines and produce wine in new regions or to work on specific lots of 3.5 acres or less to find unique flavors and aromas. All this effort carried very interesting results. So, even if you choose to drink only one grape variety from Argentina you will notice the diversity on flavor profiles. Try tasting a Malbec from Salta and one from Rio Negro and you’ll understand.
- Thanks to waves of immigration from Italy, Spain and France, Argentina has a wide range of grape varieties like Tempranillo, Syrah, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet franc, etc. Torrontés and Bonarda are among the top native varieties for fine wines.
- Still dry wines, sweet wines and sparkling? You got it! The great terroir allows winemakers to explore and experiment to produce the best wines possible in any style.
- Great value for your money. You knew this already!
WHAT THE CRITICS AND THE PRESS SAY
“Argentina is still pushing its viticultural boundaries in exciting new (or rediscovered) terroirs…”.
Tim Atkin (Argentina Special Report 2019)
“Argentina has become one of the world’s most exciting wine countries. The energy of the winemakers and viticulturalists here has been on an exponential learning curve over recent years, and some are producing mind-blowing bottles of mineral and dynamic wines that are vibrant and solid with texture and structure”.
James Suckling (jamessuckling.com)
“…there’s more to Argentina than Malbec. Lively, aromatic Torrontés is a white wine that’s well worth investigating, and the cool-climate Patagonian desert has become one of the world’s newest sources of outstanding Pinot Noir.”
